Boyne River

A simple, compact and efficient custom home perched on a high forest plateau overlooking the Boyne River.

“The goal was to create a space that felt part of the landscape—fully immersed in nature.”

ANDREW HOTARI

Design Goals

The homeowner wanted two things for this custom home: immersion in nature and a cabin-like feeling with the warmth of exposed timber. Careful planning of this escarpment property allowed the house to take advantage of its proximity to the Boyne River, perched just above it.

Lowering the cost of the driveway.

Due to the slope of the driveway and environmental regulations, accessing the house could cost more than the building.

Blending into the woods.

With a passion for rural Quebec cabins, the homeowner wanted to ensure that the home blended into its surroundings.

Views of the river.

Nature was of key importance in this project. A wrap-around deck and walkout basement immersed the home in the surrounding forest.
