Kitzbuhl Renovation

An extensive custom renovation to a chalet in the heart of the Craigleith alpine area of the Blue Mountains.

The goal was to modernize this unique structure and breathe new life into it.

Design Goals

This chalet featured a well-built insulated concrete block shell. The homeowners were prepared to demolish the building and build a custom home. We felt that we could renovate the chalet and achieve the results that the homeowners were looking for.

Avoid demolition.

The original plan was to tear down the chalet. We felt that we could properly modernize the space with the right design.

Let the light in.

We could not change the orientation, but we could modify the existing windows and add new openings to let more natural light in.

Built for skiers.

This chalet was built for ski season. They wanted to make it welcoming to guests to come for a ski getaway.
